Dermaplaning Toronto
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, and it’s an important part of any skincare routine.
Dermaplaning Treatment Toronto
There are many ways to exfoliate, including chemical peels and microdermabrasion, but one of the most effective and gentlest forms is dermaplaning. This technique uses precise strokes of a sterile surgical scalpel to gently lift away dull skin cells and fine, vellus hair commonly known as peach fuzz.
Much more effective than at-home exfoliation, dermaplaning or a dermaplaning facial works to treat dull, uneven skin, reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles, and even enables better penetration of your skincare products. Quick, safe, and non-invasive, dermaplaning procedure at Facet Dermatology in Toronto are always performed by one of our qualified medical aestheticians.
How dermaplaning works
Dermaplaning uses gentle strokes of a surgical blade to slough away dead skin cells and peach fuzz without causing superficial irritation. By eliminating this layer of build up and vellus hair that we all have on our faces, dermaplaning exfoliation rejuvenates the skin to reveal a fresh, smooth, and even complexion.
Because this form of exfoliation doesn't really irritate the skin, it may be used in combination with other aesthetic services to intensify results, such a chemical peel or hydrating facial.
What does dermaplaning treat?
+ Aging Skin
+ Sun Damage
+ Wrinkles
+ Acne scars
+ Dry skin types
Dermaplaning vs Chemical Peels Treatment
Though these aesthetic procedures both remove dead skin cells, they work differently and offer different results. Dermaplaning offers almost zero downtime and instantly creates a smooth and bright complexion, because it also helps remove baby fine vellus hair from the skin's surface. Chemical peels deliver deeper cellular renewal, so you may need a bit more downtime — but you'll see more advanced results over time. During your consultation, your provider at FACET Dermatology in Toronto will help you understand the benefits of each treatment so you can select the right procedure for your unique needs.
Is dermaplaning safe?
When performed by a qualified medical aesthetician, dermaplaning is extremely safe and comfortable for most skin types. The treatment is not painful, and most patients are extremely comfortable throughout. The sensation has been compared to the feeling of shaving or scraping along the skin.
Because this treatment uses a blade to remove peach fuzz, many clients fear that it will cause other facial hair to grow back thicker and darker. That's a common misconception — there's nothing to worry about! Vellus hair is not the type of hair to appear stubbly or dark. In fact, with a continued procedure, that fine vellus hair appears even finer. Terminal hairs, such as hair found on the upper lip, may not even be affected by dermaplaning and will not appear thicker after treatment.
How many dermaplaning treatments are needed?
Although many clients see noticeable results after just one treatment, the true benefits of dermaplaning are best achieved with an ongoing series of treatments. We usually recommend treatments every four weeks to eliminate dead skin cell build up. The positive effects on your complexion can be long-lasting.
Is dermaplaning right for you?
Dermaplaning is ideal for men and women with dull, dry, rough or uneven skin who are looking to improve their complexion, eliminate hyperpigmentation or reduce fine lines. It is also safe for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This treatment is not recommended for those with active acne or skin that is highly reactive, sensitive, or oily.

Recovery + Results
Following your dermaplaning treatment, you’ll notice a difference in your skin’s texture, tone, and appearance immediately. Your complexion will appear radiant, even, and visibly smoother.
Dermaplaning fits easily into a busy schedule and does not require any downtime. Some patients might experience slight redness, but should be able to return to most day-to-day activities immediately, though we recommend avoiding hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, tanning beds, and chlorinated pools for 24 hours post-treatment.
At the end of your appointment, your provider will likely apply sunscreen to protect your skin. By removing the dead skin cells and vellus hairs that were on your skin's surface, you'll have made your skin more susceptible to sun damage for the following week. Be sure to wear Sunscreen for the seven days following your session — and every day thereafter to stave off signs of premature aging and protect your complexion against harmful UVA/UVB rays.
You'll also want to avoid using any makeup or skincare products that could cause irritation to your fresh, new skin. Skip makeup entirely for 24 hours, then avoid using retinoids and active ingredients like glycolic acid for at least three days after you get dermaplaned, as they could cause undue irritation.
Otherwise, just be sure to regularly moisturize your skin, which will enhance the results of this exfoliation treatment, making your complexion look smooth, radiant, and full of life.
