What your weight loss program is probably missing

Most weight loss support stops at the prescription. But if you've started losing weight, or you're thinking about it, you already know the questions don't stop there. What's happening to your skin? Why does your face look different? Is this medication actually right for you? The Metabolic Skin Consultation was built for patients who want real answers from a physician who understands both the medical and aesthetic side of weight loss, not a script and a send-off.

What happens at your consultation

This is a single, in-depth appointment with a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. Before your visit, we order targeted bloodwork covering key metabolic markers so your results are ready to review when you sit down. From there, your consultation covers three things most weight loss clinics never touch.

Your metabolic health.

We review your bloodwork together and talk through what it means in plain language, covering markers like glucose, lipids, and other metabolic indicators. If GLP-1 medication is something you're considering, or already on, we walk you through the evidence: how it works, what to expect, how dosing is managed, and what side effects to watch for. If a GLP-1 isn't right for you, we'll tell you that too.

Your Skin

Weight loss changes your skin. Sometimes it's laxity, sometimes it's volume loss in the face, sometimes it's a flare-up of acne or rosacea tied to hormonal shifts. We do a full aesthetic assessment and build a treatment plan around what we're actually seeing, not a generic checklist.

Your bigger picture.

Sometimes what comes up in your consultation points to something outside our scope, a conversation with your OB-GYN about hormonal contraception, a referral for thyroid follow-up, or a flag your family doctor should know about. We connect those dots for you and make sure you leave with a clear plan, not just for your skin, but for where to go next.

Who is This Consultation For?

This is for patients who want more than a prescription. You might be considering GLP-1 medication and want a physician who will actually explain the science, monitor your progress, and address what's happening to your appearance along the way. You might already be losing weight and noticing changes in your skin, your face, or your body composition that no one warned you about. You might be navigating perimenopause, postpartum shifts, or hormonal changes that are affecting your skin and your metabolism at the same time. Or you might simply be someone who wants a doctor to sit with you, look at the full picture, and give you a real plan.

Whatever brought you here, every recommendation is grounded in your lab results, your health history, and your individual goals.

Why This Weight Loss & Skin Consultation Exists at FACET

FACET Dermatology is a research-active clinic that has run more than 35 dermatology trials, with Dr. Geeta Yadav serving as principal investigator on more than 20 clinical trials. Dr Yadav, a board-certified dermatologist, Clinical Adjunct at the University of Toronto, practices both medical and cosmetic dermatology. This means she brings a perspective most clinics simply can't offer: the ability to evaluate what's happening inside your body and what it's doing to your appearance, in the same room, at the same appointment.

The Metabolic Skin Consultation was designed because she kept seeing the same gap. Patients were getting prescriptions for weight loss with no guidance on the skin and aesthetic changes that follow, or they were getting aesthetic treatments with no understanding of the metabolic changes driving what they saw in the mirror. This consultation closes that gap.

What Patients Walk Away With

Every patient starts from a different place, so outcomes look different for everyone. But what patients consistently tell us is that they finally feel like someone explained things clearly. Through your bloodwork, you'll understand what's actually going on with your metabolism, not just a number on a scale. Through your aesthetic assessment, you'll have a specific plan for your skin, your face, and your body composition, built around what we're seeing clinically, not what's trending online. And through the follow-up structure, you'll have a physician checking in, adjusting, and keeping you on track. You leave with a roadmap, not a pamphlet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Metabolic Skin Consultation different from a typical weight loss clinic?

Most weight loss clinics are focused on one thing: the prescription. This consultation is led by a board-certified dermatologist who evaluates your metabolic health and your skin in the same appointment. You get your bloodwork reviewed, a clear conversation about GLP-1 options (including whether they're right for you), a personalized aesthetic treatment plan, and ongoing follow-up. It's the consultation that actually looks at the full picture.

Will I automatically get a prescription for GLP-1 medication?

No. If GLP-1 medication is clinically appropriate based on your bloodwork and health history, we'll discuss it in detail: what the evidence shows, what to expect, how dosing works, and whether it's the right fit for your situation. The goal is an informed decision, not a rushed prescription.

How much does this consultation cost?

The initial Metabolic Skin Consultation is $500, and follow-up maintenance visits are $250. The fee reflects what you're actually getting: a full in-person appointment with a board-certified dermatologist, targeted bloodwork ordered ahead of time and reviewed with you in the room, a complete aesthetic assessment, and a personalized treatment plan that addresses both your metabolic health and your skin. Follow-up visits keep that same physician oversight in place so we can monitor your progress, track for benefit and side effects, and adjust your plan as your body changes. This is a physician-led consultation, not a prescription service. These visits are not OHIP-covered, and medications are not guaranteed to be covered either; that depends on your private drug plan.

What bloodwork is included?

Your consultation includes targeted lab testing covering markers such as glucose, lipids, and other metabolic indicators. These results give us a clear picture of your metabolic health, which directly affects how your body responds to weight changes and shows up in your skin. Every recommendation is grounded in your actual biology.

I've already lost weight, but my skin looks different. Can this help?

Yes. Skin laxity, loss of facial volume, and changes in skin quality are some of the most common concerns patients bring to this consultation. Your dermatologist will assess your skin and facial structure and develop a treatment plan tailored to what you need, which may include skin tightening, body contouring with Emsculpt NEO or Ultherapy PRIME, or other targeted treatments.

What about acne, rosacea, or other skin issues that have come up since I started losing weight?

Absolutely. Hormonal and metabolic shifts can trigger or worsen conditions like acne and rosacea. Because this consultation is led by a dermatologist, not med spa, we can diagnose and address those concerns directly as part of your overall plan.

How often will I need to come back?

Your initial consultation is a single appointment. A follow-up at approximately four months is recommended to review your progress, adjust your treatment plan, and make sure everything is moving in the right direction. Any additional aesthetic treatments are scheduled separately based on your personalized plan.

Is this only for people trying to lose a significant amount of weight?

Not at all. This consultation is for anyone who wants expert, physician-led guidance on how their metabolic health is affecting their skin and appearance. Whether you're early in a weight loss journey, managing changes you've already experienced, or focused on skin quality as your body and hormones shift, this is designed for you.

I'm also experiencing hair loss. Is that covered here?

Hair loss is a specialized concern that we take seriously. FACET offers a dedicated Hair Loss Consultation for patients dealing with thinning or shedding. If hair loss comes up during your Metabolic Skin Consultation, your dermatologist can advise on next steps and help you book the right follow-up.
