Understanding Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that causes painful lumps, abscesses, and tunnels (sinus tracts) to form beneath the skin, often in areas where friction and sweat occur, such as the underarms or groin.
HS is not contagious, but it can be physically and emotionally challenging. Without proper treatment, it may progress over time, leading to scarring, discomfort, and decreased quality of life.
At FACET Dermatology, our dermatologists specialize in diagnosing and managing HS through personalized, evidence-based care, from prescription therapies to access to clinical trials evaluating innovative new treatment options.
Treatment & Recommended Services
Because HS is a chronic inflammatory condition, treatment focuses on controlling inflammation, reducing flare frequency, and preventing new lesions.
Your dermatologist may recommend a combination of:
- Prescription antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications
- Hormonal or immune-modulating therapies
- Biologic injections
- Laser treatments
- Surgical or procedural treatments
- Clinical Trials
Our dermatologists understand the sensitive nature of HS and provide comprehensive, discreet care in a supportive environment. Each plan is fully customized to your disease stage, comfort level, and lifestyle.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Clinical Trials
FACET Dermatology is a proud participant in clinical research aimed at improving the future of HS care. Our team regularly conducts clinical trials testing new medications and biologics designed to reduce inflammation, prevent flare-ups, and promote healing.
Participating in an HS clinical trial may allow you to:
- Access emerging treatments not yet available to the public
- Receive close medical monitoring from our dermatology research team
- Contribute to scientific advancements that help others living with HS
All trials are conducted under Health Canada–approved protocols and overseen by board-certified dermatologists to ensure patient safety and care.
If traditional treatments haven’t worked or you’re looking for the latest innovations, ask our team whether you may qualify for a current HS clinical trial.
