Fraxel Laser Toronto
Respected as one of the most effective and versatile resurfacing laser treatments, Fraxel® re:store DUAL works to safely reverse the visible signs of aging and correct skin damage.
Fraxel Laser Toronto
Using a patented fractionated technology, Fraxel is an effective solution for aging skin, sun spots and damage, as well as textural concerns including acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles.
At Facet Dermatology in Toronto, our qualified medical aesthetician can perform Fraxel treatments to enhance the health and beauty of skin on the face, neck, chest, hands and beyond non-surgically and without extended downtime.
How Fraxel Laser Treatment Works
Fraxel re:store DUAL, is a non-ablative laser that targets aging and sun damaged skin using microscopic columns of laser light energy. This non-invasive treatment treats the skin's surface while penetrating deeper skin layers to initiate skin's natural collagen production and cellular turnover processes, stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
What makes a fractional laser like Fraxel so unique is the ability of the laser energy to treat only a fraction of the skin at a time, concentrating on the treated areas and leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed, which reduces downtime and expedites the healing process.
As your skin heals in the days following treatment, damaged skin cells rise the the skin's surface and slough away, giving way to new skin growth and addressing imperfections. After your recovery period, you'll see smoother-looking fine lines and wrinkles, improvement to acne scarring and skin laxity, and faded age spots.

Is Fraxel laser treatment safe?
Fraxel laser is extremely well-recognized, and extremely safe when performed by a highly trained and experienced practitioner. It is also a Health Canada cleared device. Most patients at Facet Dermatology describe an increased sensation of heat during the fractional laser treatment.
Can numbing be applied?
Yes, of course. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthetic ointment, or numbing cream, is applied before the procedure. Integrated cooling is also used throughout to ensure patient comfort during this laser resurfacing procedure.
How many Fraxel laser treatments are needed?
Results may be noticeable after a single treatment, though multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results, depending on the condition and area being treated. How many treatments you need will also be determined by the severity of your skin texture and tone concerns.
To maintain the results of your fractional laser treatments, your provider may suggest repeat treatments; over time, the natural sun exposure we get on a daily basis can cause skin damage, causing new fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Regular skin resurfacing appointments can help fight those concerns.
Is Fraxel laser treatment right for you?
Fraxel is an effective solution for men and women who want to look younger without dramatic changes or extended downtime. If you’re looking to soften wrinkles and fine lines, smooth scars, improve skin tone and texture, even pigmentation and sun damage, reduce acne scars, and improve your skin’s overall health, you may be a good candidate for Fraxel laser treatments.
If you've avoided non-ablative laser treatments in the past due to concerns of hyperpigmentation on your deeper skin tone, you could still be a candidate for Fraxel treatment. The Fraxel re:store DUAL laser system used at Facet Dermatology offers multiple settings, including one that can be safely used to treat dark skin. During your in-person consultation for Fraxel, your medical aesthetician will determine if you're a good candidate for this procedure or whether you may be better suited to a different treatment, like micro needling.
The treatment cannot be performed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You can also not book this procedure if you are on Accutane; you must wait six months or more to safely get Fraxel laser treatment.

How do I prepare for fractional laser resurfacing treatments?
Ahead of your Fraxel appointment, you should not use chemical peels or acne treatments containing glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide, nor should you be using topical or oral forms of steroids or retinoids, for at least 14 days before. In those two weeks, you should also not get chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or other forms of light energy-based treatments, including laser hair removal. Waxing should be avoided until after your treatment.
In the days leading up to your procedure, you should avoid blood-thinning and anti-inflammatory medications and supplements, such as aspirin or fish oil, as well as alcohol as these can all increase your risk of bruising.
The day of treatment, be sure to drink plenty of water and come to our office with a clean, bare face.
Recovery & Results
Results of Fraxel laser treatments are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvements are usually visible within two to three months following treatment, as new collagen is produced, but could take up to six months to see the final results.
Fraxel has a minimal downtime. Patients usually feel as though their skin is sunburnt and may experience slight swelling, which usually diminishes in one to three hours. Total healing process will vary based on your treatment plan, but you can expect at least three to five days of bronzing and sloughing on the skin surface. For more assertive treatments, or when treating areas such as your hands and chest, it may take 10 to 14 days to recover, but in general, this procedure is not as invasive as treatment with ablative lasers, and you will not experience oozing or discomfort. We recommend wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, and avoiding direct sun exposure for at least three months.
Depending on your skin condition and the particular issues you were aiming to treat, the results of this Fraxel treatment can last years, especially if your current beauty regimen is effective and contains skincare products with active ingredients that will continue to improve the appearance of your skin. That said, the correction of certain issues, such as acne scarring, will be permanent.
