Skin Tightening With Ultherapy

Mature woman with her chin propped on her hand

Tighter skin without plastic surgery sounds like a myth — but Ultherapy, an ultrasound-based aesthetics device, delivers just that. Without even breaking the skin, the high-focused energy travels deep within the tissue to gently heat it, triggering new collagen production that leads to firmer, tauter skin. Best of all, patients typically only need one treatment to achieve their desired results, which can last for up to two years.

Though you might be tempted to just book the treatment immediately, it’s important to do your research first — and trust us when we say there’s a lot of misinformation out there! So you can better understand Ultherapy, we’ve broken down five common myths about the procedure below, helping you walk into your consultation with confidence.

Ultherapy Myth #1: Ultherapy can only be used to treat the face and neck.

Fact: Ultherapy can treat many areas of the face and body.

Ultherapy is most commonly used to tighten skin of the brow, neck and jawline (including jowls!), beneath the chin, and on the décolleté, making it an excellent treatment option for those with “necklace lines” or creases between the cleavage caused by side sleeping. The results from Ultherapy treatment in these areas have been shown to be incredibly satisfying to patients. However, many providers, including FACET Dermatology founder and medical director, dermatologist Dr. Geeta Yadav, use Ultherapy “off-label” on other areas prone to sagging, including above the elbows and knees as well as the abdomen. The best way to know if your sagging skin will respond to Ultherapy treatment is by booking a consultation.

Ultherapy Myth #2: Ultherapy results are instantly visible.

Fact: You’ll need to wait several months to see the results of Ultherapy take effect.

You know the old saying — good things take time. That’s certainly true in the case of Ultherapy treatment. Because Ultherapy works by triggering new collagen production, you won’t see the outcome of your procedure immediately as you might if you had booked, say, a thread lift (which we also offer at FACET Dermatology!). The formation of new collagen takes months; you’ll begin to see results kick in after about three months, with the full outcome being visible after a year.

Ultherapy Myth #3: Ultherapy is dangerous.

Fact: Ultherapy is safe in the hands of a skilled provider.

Ultherapy was cleared by Health Canada back in 2009 and has been a reliable and safe treatment for mild to moderate skin laxity ever since. You’ll find that most risks and side effects of aesthetic treatments occur when a procedure is performed by an under-qualified or inexperienced provider. At FACET Dermatology in Toronto, we take your health, comfort, and care very seriously. You’re in safe hands with Dr. Yadav and our team.

Though this skin-tightening procedure is safe, it is worth noting that some patients find Ultherapy treatment to be uncomfortable. In addition to numbing cream, we offer multiple options, including prescription pain relievers, to ensure any discomfort is manageable. Keep in mind that the uncomfortable part of the treatment is the pulse of the device, which only lasts about one to two seconds. At most, an Ultherapy appointment takes 90 minutes. Once the treatment is over, you’ll be back to normal with zero pain and no downtime — at most, you’ll experience some mild swelling or bruising, but nothing that will prevent you from resuming your regular activities.

Ultherapy Myth #4: Ultherapy can replace a face lift.

Fact: Ultherapy can delay a face lift.

When trying any aesthetics treatment, it’s important to have realistic expectations for your results. If you have significant skin laxity, Ultherapy won’t be an effective solution for you. It’s really best for those in their 30s, 40s, or even early 50s — someone who generally has bouncy, resilient skin and has noticed mild to moderate sagging in recent years. If this sounds like you, an Ultherapy treatment could help you maintain tighter skin for years, delaying the desire or need for more invasive procedures like plastic surgery.

Ultherapy Myth #5: Ultherapy is unaffordable.

Fact: That depends on your budget — and your payment plan.

We get it — not everyone can afford to pay for a luxury aesthetic treatment in full. That doesn’t mean you can’t book your procedure, however! Book your consultation today and ask about FACET Dermatology’s payment plans, which may make it easier for you to pay for Ultherapy and other treatments.
